The island of Vieques, just six miles off the southeast coast of Puerto Rico is one of the few islands that remain like the Caribbean of the past; tranquil and lush with uncrowded beaches, and natural beauty all around. Since 1941, this 'secret' island in the Caribbean was primarily under the control of the United States Navy. However, after years of protests, the Navy finally discontinued their military practices and left the island in 2003. Since then, the locals and world travelers have seen the island evolve into one of the top Caribbean destinations. Hip boutique hotels, unique and delicious beachside restaurants combined with gorgeous white sand beaches, amazing snorkeling and diving and a even phosphorescent bay - Vieques offers an opportunity for its visitors to truly 'dive in'.
